It is important to puppy-proof your home. Check your whole home to be sure it is safe prior to bringing a dog home. Store things like meds and cleaning products in a safe location, and be sure to keep any indoor trash cans behind a cabinet. Some plants that are usually kept in the home are poisonous to pets, so move them where your dog cannot get to them, or put them out of your home completely.  Click here to find out more.

Obviously, dogs are unable to sleep. Therefore, you have to pay attention to your canine's non-verbal cues. If they seem hesitant upon meeting up with other dogs or people, don't force interaction. This may cause a human or the other canine to get bit. Look for non-verbal cues and follow what the dog is telling you.

If you are planning to take your dog on an extended car-ride, talk to your vet about motion sickness medication first. More details can be found here.  Avoid feeding him before setting out to prevent queasiness and vomiting and make sure you buy him bottled water if you are traveling to any destination that is known to have issues with water quality.

Refrain from making the training sessions with your dogs too long. Extended sessions can make a dog tire out and become bored easily when you are trying to teach them new things. Limit your training sessions to 20-30 minutes, as this will help to keep the full attention of your dog.

When you are trying to teach your dog new tricks, you should always be patient. Different dogs will learn things differently. If your dog isn't picking up a new trick right away, give him time. You could also try changing your teaching method. Your dog may respond better to a different approach.

You must also be aware of the potential problems in dealing with dog waste.  People who have always had a huge back yard don't know this is a problem.  But if you have dogs in an apartment this is a much bigger issue.

Be a good neighbor and discourage your dog from barking, unless he is alerting you to danger. Most people get used to the sound of their dog yelping, but others find it a constant annoyance. If your dog barks often, consider talking to your vet about what could be causing it and how you can put a stop to it, for everyone's sake.

Keep your dog warm during winter with the latest in canine fashion and accessories. You may think it's just for show, but dogs need protection from the elements too! Keeping your dog's paw-pads dry is essential to their health in sub-freezing weather, so invest in suede or leather footwear and pick him up a coat while you're at it. Make them instead if you are creative!

Now that you've read this article, does it seem easier to raise a dog than before? Dogs are smart creatures, but isn't necessarily hard to take care of them. Just be patient with them, give them love, and exercise what you know. All of the dog tips you've seen will come in handy.
